Cat Cromwell's Portfolio
Phillips & Temro Internship
Internship Summary
During my design engineering internship, I supported the product development process by conducting qualification testing, troubleshooting issues, and documenting key findings. I independently taught myself Microsoft Access to design a database that streamlined certificate tracking and created a visual guide to categorize heater types. This experience introduced me to cross-functional collaboration and sparked my interest in user-centered design and product ownership.

Design Process:
Certification Database Tool
During my internship, I led the end-to-end design and implementation of a certification database tool to streamline documentation retrieval for the engineering team.
The project began with stakeholder interviews to empathize with users and define the core requirements: fast, reliable search functionality by title, certificate number, and product type. After evaluating potential solutions, I independently researched and selected Microsoft Access as the most effective platform, teaching myself the tool to create a tailored solution.

In the ideation and prototyping phase, I designed a clean, intuitive user interface with custom forms and built-in search capabilities that aligned with user needs.

Once the initial prototype was complete, I conducted testing, incorporated user feedback, and iterated until the solution was fully functional and user-approved. I wrapped up the project by training the team and rolling out the tool, which received highly positive feedback and significantly increased their efficiency.
This project demonstrates my ability to apply UX/UI design principles, drive product outcomes, and deliver real-world solutions through cross-functional collaboration and initiative.
